Known as the ‘City of Seven Towers’ because of the highly visible seven towers of bygone days, Ballymena is the birthplace of several prominent Northern Irishmen, including Ian Paisley, footballer Michael O’Neil and actor Liam Neeson. Situated 24 miles north of Belfast in the picturesque Glens of Antrim on the banks of the River Braid the town is proud of its colourful history. Firstly there are the three surviving ‘towers’, All Saints Roman Catholic Church, St. Patrick’s Church and the Old Parish Church. More recent landmarks include the Town Hall, which was built in 1924, the Bandstand on Broadway built in 1908 and the new Ecos Centre.
